Building & Occupier Details

Building:
Part of the Oracle Centre Phase&nsp;III

stage III of the Oracle Shopping Centre involved creating an entrance onto Broad Street. For this, Nos. 124-125 were obliterated and Nos. 126-131 almost so, with only the latters' 1928 façade retained. stage III was completed in 2000.

No. 125
The Oracle (shopping arcade or mall)

The Oracle is an indoor shopping & leisure mall mostly occupying the former sites of Simonds Brewery and a Reading Buses depot, beside the River Kennet. It was built in three stages in 1999 and 2000. It was a joint venture between Hammerson and ADIA until 2025, when Hammerson bought out its partner's share..

2006 - The Oracle's entrance doors were modified, replacing the previously mixed automatic manual doors with fully automatic ones. This was presumably to better permit the passage of large numbers of customers.

No. 124 / unit L41
Ashley Blooms (florist)

Ashley Blooms was a Caversham-based florist's business established in the 1990s. From 2001 to 2012, it occupied Oracle unit L41 (i.e., more-or-less where No. 124, Broad Street once was). The business was dissolved in 2022.
