Part of the Blagrave Estate's 1869 Shopping Parade

Part of a shopping parade built for the Blagrave Estate in 1869 at a cost of almost £4000. It was designed by local architects JT & W Brown. Nos. 86 & 87A retain their original upper brick façade. The parade was locally listed by Reading Borough Council in 2022.

Eyesite (optician and/or optometrist)

Eyesite is a small independent chain of retail opticians with a handful of sites across the southeast of England. It was founded in Reading in 1984 by Duncan Ashby and remains headquartered in the town.

2024 - Nos. 87 and 87A were acquired by optician chain Eyesite which combined them into a single shop unit. The practice had moved from No. 142, Friar Street, where it had been since 2009.

Shoe Zone (shoe shop)

Shoe Zone is a shoe shop chain. Originally named Benson Shoe, it was founded in Leicester in 1917 by four shoe manufacturers.It was purchased by Michael & Christopher Smith - grandsons of one of the founders - in 1980 and renamed Shoe Zone in 1996. It remains headquartered in Leicester.
