Building:
Part of the Marks & Spencer building (1952/1971)

This purpose-built M&S building was erected on the site of Nos. 12-16 in 1952, replacing previous buildings. It was subsequently extended to cover Nos. 17-19 in 1971. Faced in Portland stone, It employs a versatile modular design that was created for M&S in 1934 by architect Robert Lutyens (1901-1970).

Marks & Spencer is a department store retailer founded in Leeds in 1884 as a 'penny bazaar' variety store by Michael Marks & Thomas Spencer .

2015 - M&S rebranded, with a new logo, but hadn’t yet got around to updating the shop fascia.
