Nos. 121-123 Broad Street (south side) - 2022

Building & Occupier Details

Building:
Former Belcher building

This building was built in 1882 for butcher John Belcher on the site of Philip Davies' former grocery and warehouse.

No. 123
Fat Face (clothing retailer - mens & ladies' wear)

Fat Face is a men's and women's fashion brand founded by Tim Slade in the French ski resort of Méribel in 1988. Its name references one of the ski slopes. It opened its first shop in London in 1993. Since 2000, it has been the subject of several acquisitions, the most recent (as of 2026) being by Next in 2023.

Building:
Former Freeman, Hardy & Willis building

This was built before 1885, when it appeared in a sketch by James Gafford, and was probably built in 1884, when shoe chain Freeman, Hardy & Willis acquired both Nos. 121 and 122. Had it been built before that, to accommodate the separate two shops then existing, the upper floors would probably also be divided.

Nos. 121-122
Vacant (no occupier)

This property was empty and unused.

2022 - The fast food chain Wasabi was reported as preparing to move into the vacant Nos. 121-122 and even submitted the necessary planning applications but then, in the end, changed its mind. The shop thus remained vacant for its fourth consecutive year.
