John Lewis (department store)

John Lewis Partnership is a retailer that operates several department stores and the Waitrose supermarket chain. It was founded in London in 1864 by John Lewis. Its Reading department store, called Heelas until 2001, was founded by John Heelas in Minster Street in 1854. John Lewis Partnership acquired it in 1953.

2018 - John Lewis embarked on a major rebranding exercise, changing its trading name to 'John Lewis and Partners' to emphasise its ownership by an employee trust. Ironically, it then also restructured, axing 270 jobs across the country. Its Reading store was not yet updated in line with the rebrand.
