Broad Street Independent Chapel

The shops, arch and tower comprising the frontage were added in 1892 when the chapel (built in 1800), which was set back from the road behind a courtyard, was extended to the edge of the street. The chapel itself closed in 1984 and was reopened as shop space in 1995. It was Grade II listed in 1978.

Sole Trader (shoe shop)

Sole Trader is a shoe shop chain first established in 1946 and trading as a retailer since 1962. Initially called Top Footwear for Men, its first store was in St. Albans. The chain was renamed Top Shoes in 1987 and Sole Trader in 1992. It is headquartered in Hemel Hempstead.

2022 - Shoe shop Sole Trader moved into the formerly vacant No. 89.

Waterstones is a bookshop chain founded in London in 1982 by Tim Waterstone after WH Smith made him redundant. It was acquired by WH Smith in 1993 and then HMV in 1998. Since 2018, it has been owned by the American investment group Elliott Investment Management.
