Building:
Part of the Blagrave Estate's 1869 Shopping Parade

Part of a shopping parade built for the Blagrave Estate in 1869 at a cost of almost £4000. It was designed by local architects JT & W Brown. Its street façade was modified in the 1930s. The parade was locally listed by Reading Borough Council in 2022.

Gamestation (computer games retailer)

Gamestation was a video game retailer founded in York in 1993 by Steven Hall and Julian Gladwin. It becane the UK's second largest such brand (after Game) but was then purchased by Game in 2007. It maintained its brand itentity until 2012, when it was fully absorned into Game and all stores rebranded.

2011 - In a slightly baffling move, Game rebranded its Broad Street store as Gamestation, the rival video games chain that it had acquired in 2007 and which already had a branch in Queen Victoria Street.

 

Building:
Salmon's 'New Buildings'

A singular 'New Building' despite its plural name, this was built in 1869 for butcher Richard Salmon and designed by local architects JT & W Brown. Alterations by another local architect, William Ravenscroft, were made in 1882 for chemist Joseph Noad. Reading Borough Council locally listed the building in 2023.

Evans (clothing retailer - ladies' wear)

Evans is a ladies' wear retailer specialising in plus-size clothing. Founded by Jack Green in 1930, it was acquired by Burton Group (later renamed Arcadia Group) in 1970. Arcadia Group went into administration in 2020 and the Evans brand was sold off to beome a purely online retailer owned by AK Retail Holdings.
